FAYE: What do you think we can do about plastic recycling?

TORI:

What I am researching now is there are at least 6 types of plastic and some of them are not easy to be recycled. So I think the packaging industry has to be regulated to provide clearer information on the plastics they use. In this way, people can sort these plastic much easier and government can execute related policy effectively. Besides, tell people the importance of plastic recycling and start with small activities. we can set up clubs to do that but not just for media attention.

FAYE: I know the work of recycling plastic is doing very well in some developed countries, but it's not good enough in China. Many adults like our parents even don’t have the awareness to protect our environment by recycling plastic. Do you think the awareness is related to the education level?

TORI:

I think everyone uses education level to suggest that people with less education do not know right from wrong (or one behavior, from another), but for somethings, no one has received this education and is not related to education level.

FAYE: I think government has some problems on helping citizens to deal with garbage sorting while some people don't have the concept to recycling rubbish, and they think it's very troublesome to sort rubbish in daily. What do you think about this contradiction?

TORI:

why just wait for the government to do this? I know lots of people in UK who think in the same as some adults in China, they think sorting rubbish is very troublesome and wasting time. It will take a long time to change their minds. But don't make it all the government problem. Make it your problem, make it your school problem. Everyone can educate themselves. Why wait for the government to tell you?

FAYE:  So we should tell the people around us that the importance and knowledge about recycling plastic, and we can hold some lectures about it at regular intervals, just like the lecture you did for us yesterday. We can also organize some activities about it in our school and the communities we live in. To deliver the right concept to them slowly and make them notice the using of one-time item and recycling plastics in their daily life.

TORI:

True, but sometimes it is hard to influence close friends and family. They already heard it many times. How can you influence people without making them bored? By the way, I completely agree with your ideas. I really hope you can make a club, even a small one. Just start with doing something. Ask people for feedback. Listen to feedback. And keep going. I spent 7 years picking litter and doing small activities. I felt I was always talking to people, no one listens. Even now, with some government support, I do not feel they can always listen, or take my suggestions. But don't give up, if you believe in it.
